The Gem of Gym Rules
After 10 years of owning a total fitness gym we have noticed over time that certain habits get created and tend to stretch across the lifting area. We have developed a set of rules that are easy to follow and will help keep our gym clean, safe, and continue to be one of the best in the city of Indianapolis.
Rules To Lift By
LIFT SAFELY
Is today a max out day? Gonna try to set a new PR squat or deadlift? Make sure you have someone there to spot you. Either a lifting buddy or other gym member can help you prevent an unnecessary strain or sprain and could even keep that failed lift from causing serious injury. Every machine has some kind of safety feature built in. Benches have face savers, Monolifts have chains to catch the bar on a failed squat, our squat racks all have safety pins to aid in any failed lift, so take advantage of all these ways to help you lift safely. We are all here to help one another achieve our goals and we are all here to keep each other safe and free from injury.
RESPECT OTHERS
Achieving our goals, making that PR is exciting and a great way to show accomplishment and success. While trying to hit that lift or achieve that fitness goal we can get excited and yell out with joy. Sometimes those moments are laced with words that can offend others in the gym. The use of profanity is not welcome or encouraged in our gym.
We have several young people that train with us. We have several people of various shapes and sizes that are all working to get in shape and achieve their fitness goals. Discussing the looks of our lifters or staring at our fellow gym members is strictly prohibited. That kind of behavior leads to members feeling uncomfortable and un-welcome. You will receive one warning to stop and you will be monitored by the staff to see that the behavior has ceased. If you continue to make others feel uncomfortable, we will terminate your membership and you will never be invited back.
We have many members that post on social media to share their accomplishments. This is especially true of our speed and agility athletes. If you do not have a direct connection to any of our young athletes, you have no reason to EVER DM or contact them through those social media outlets. WE WILL FIND OUT AND YOU WILL BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY AS A MEMBER. In addition, we will warn other gyms of your behavior.
RETURN WEIGHTS / BARS
Many of our lifting machines require plates to be loaded. After you have completed your workout, those plates must be returned to where you found them. Do not leave plates for the next person to clean up. Return bars and collars to their designated locations, marked with tape. Wipe down the equipment using one of the provided spray bottles/clothe. Our goal is to maintain a clean, safe, and productive environment. Leaving your machine loaded with the plates you placed there is rude and not acceptable. Please put your toys away when you are done with them.
MEMBERS ONLY!
We are a MEMBERS ONLY gym. That means you as a member pay a monthly fee, have 24 hours access to our gym, and have put a Waiver of Liability on file with us. When a non-member comes to our gym and uses our equipment, they are putting the owners at risk of liability, they are taking up space that is not awarded to them, and they are committing theft of service, a crime. NO ONE is permitted to come into our building and use our equipment if they are not members, have not signed a waiver, and not paid for the Daily Admission Fee with one of our staff. Guests are only permitted during our regular hours of operation, seen on our website “westindybarbell.com”. There may be circumstances when you have a guest or friend come in for the weekend and our hours are limited, in that case call 317-403-5399 to make arrangements for payment and signature on waiver (we now use an app called GymMaster that allows for this to occur, I encourage everyone to load it into their phones).
WE HAVE CAMERAS THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING. If you decide that you cannot perform the above tasks and bring someone in with you after hours, we will charge you for that person’s appearance. There are NO AFTERHOURS FREE DAY PASSES. THERE ARE NO GYM TRYOUTS TO BECOME A MEMBER AFTER STAFFED HOURS. We will notify you of this charge of $15 to your account. If this happens again you will be charged $100 and your membership will be revoked.
